Casa Bom Dia Academy

COMING IN 2024

It's time to rethink education

  • It’s time to teach real world experience with hands on learning.

  • It’s time to adapt technology to fit education.

  • It’s time for self-paced learning in a community that strives to master subjects, not just pass them.

  • It’s time to fit school to the learner and not the other way around.

  • It's time that education focuses on "Learning to do", "Learning to know" and most importantly "Learning to be".

Modern education for a modern world

Learner-driven education for heroes from 9 to 14 years.

Casa Bom Dia Academy grew out of our own personal homeschooling approach that started in 2021.
It is a new initiative in Mindelo that seeks to change the way we think about school.

Education can be transformed

We believe that each person is a hero capable of changing the world. Our mission is to find the vocation, provide the tools, and generate the momentum to be able to help.

At Casa Bom Dia Academy

  • We have a guide NOT classroom teachers.

  • We have a garage studio NOT classrooms.

  • We use socratic questions and do NOT lecture.

  • We have portfolios and exhibitions NOT grades.

  • We have contracts and covenants NOT homework.

  • Our students find their OWN real-world apprenticeships.

  • We build our curriculum around EACH individual’s Hero’s Journey.

  • We partner with Myrtl Learning Centre for community building, social integration and afternoon education.

A Day in The Life

A day in our garage studio is marked by creativity within constraints: large blocks of time for work and play with clear but broad guardrails, equipping young people to manage their time, set goals, and track progress. As learners demonstrate their readiness, they earn more freedom and responsibility.

Daily Schedule

Mornings are reserved for core skills, time to reflect and afternoons are for hands-on projects, deepen out reading, writing or math and connect with peers.

The flexibility of the schedule is key to the learning design. Work blocks can be shuffled around based on needs each session. Within each work block, students choose from a broad range of work options based on their personal goals, passions, and commitments.
